About the Artist:

Sarah Beatty, an artist from Ontario, is known for her unique voice and thought-provoking music. Her debut solo album, “Black Gramophone,” released a decade after various Southern Ontario collaborations, earned a Hamilton Music Award nomination and charted in the Top 10 roots. Her follow-up album, “Bandit Queen,” released in February 2017, was a genre-defying 13-track adventure that explored themes of transition and personal stories. Recorded live in two days with notable musicians, the album expanded with contributions from Hamilton’s active music scene, creating a rich sonic landscape. “Bandit Queen” received critical acclaim, earning Beatty the Ontario Independent Recording Artist award in 2018 and praise for its depth and innovation.

Beyond music, Beatty is a physical scientist and geographic information systems technologist, holding a PhD in Environmental Science from McMaster University. She has presented her research internationally and published in peer-reviewed journals. Beatty also conducts song workshops for youth, encouraging them to write and perform original science songs. Her live performances, known for their warmth and curiosity, have taken her to various venues across Ontario and beyond, sharing stages with both established and emerging artists. Despite challenges in the music economy, Beatty continues to captivate audiences with her engaging and spirited shows, exploring life’s peculiarities with a sense of wonder.
